Бенисио дель Торо предлагают роль в романтическом триллере "Потерянный рай" ("Paradise Lost"), сообщает Variety.

Главным героем фильма станет молодой серфер Ник, который приезжает к брату в Колумбию и там влюбляется в девушку по имени Мария. События развиваются хорошо до тех пор, пока Ник не выясняет, что дядя его возлюбленной - наркобарон Пабло Эскобар. Именно роль Эскобара и предлагается дель Торо.

Постановкой фильма займется Андреа ди Стефано. "Потерянный рай" станет его режиссерским дебютом. До сих пор ди Стефано был известен как актер: он снимался в лентах "Ешь, молись, люби" и "Жизнь Пи". Ди Стефано также сам написал сценарий новой картины.

Бюджет "Потерянного рая" составит около 25 миллионов долларов США. Съемки начнутся в Панаме в марте 2013 года и продлятся 11 недель.

Пабло Эскобар, которого сыграет дель Торо, родился в колумбийском городе Рионегро в 1949 году. Он был третьим из семи детей в бедной семье и с детства мечтал стать миллионером. В середине 1970-х Эскобар торговал кокаином. Со временем обороты созданного им наркокартеля достигли такого уровня, что Эскобар стал считаться одним из самых богатых людей в мире. В начале 1980-х Эскобар занялся политической деятельностью, но его карьера на этом поприще была недолгой. Пабло Эскобар был застрелен в 1993 году при попытке скрыться от колумбийской полиции.

В 2012 году в прокат вышла лента Оливера Стоуна "Особо опасны" (оригинальное название - "Savages"), в которой Бенисио дель Торо сыграл одного из ключевых персонажей - Ладо, вышибалу из мексиканского наркокартеля.
